Designed to build practical product knowledge of Sri Lanka as a high-end destination, Unbound Travel Group invites Australian travel agents and trade professionals to join us on a curated 7-day famil. This hosted journey focuses on realistic routing, strong hotel partnerships and experiences that reflect how Sri Lanka is sold to clients via our Sri Lanka private touring brand, Sri Lanka Unbound

Unpacking The Booming Popularity Of Sri Lanka

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Sri Lanka has emerged as one of Australia’s fastest-growing travel destinations, with arrivals up 19% year on year.

Outpacing even Japan and Vietnam in terms of growth, a critical factor contributing to Sri Lanka’s rise is its improved air connectivity, with Sri Lankan Airlines playing a key role in supporting inbound growth. Further direct flights will be added when Jetstar launches its inaugural Melbourne to Colombo service in August 2026.

While the arrival of more low-cost carriers will influence tourism on the ever-popular South Coast, Sri Lanka is also home to a large number of luxury experiences. Merrick Abraham, Business Development Manager at Unbound Travel Group, believes this market to be underserved amongst the Australian tourism community.

“We’re seeing strong interest from Australian travellers looking for world-class holidays closer to home,” said Merrick. “Sri Lanka has shifted well beyond its old reputation as a backpacker destination. With a well-developed tourism infrastructure, key attractions located close together and a growing pipeline of high-quality luxury properties, it is now recognised as a premium travel option for Australians.”

Key Information For Agents To Note

We’ll be focusing on destination understanding, accommodation positioning and experiences. The famil has been intentionally crafted to feature single room accommodation throughout, with no room sharing required. This reflects how premium clients typically travel and allows agents to properly experience each property independently, assess room categories accurately, and engage with the product without compromise.
